Statement Of Intent

After looking at my mind-map of all the things I am passionate or obsessive about, I chose to look at two of my biggest ones – Film and Dir en Grey (in particular the lead singer – Kyo). I chose film because ultimately it is the career that I want; I am very passionate about the whole field and see films at the cinema at least once a week. I am passionate about my vast DVD collection that I collect and take great care over. I also obsess sometimes over certain actors, actresses, directors and genres. I chose to also look at Dir en grey because they are my favourite band and Kyo is my favourite person in the world. The whole band is very passionate about their music and aim to please their fans. Originally, they used to be a Visual Kei* band, but now they have ditched their style and solely concentrate upon their music.

There is not much of a crossover between the two subjects which is why I am going to take factors from both, mix them together and see what my final outcome is. I think that this will be quite a hard project as I do not really know if I will successfully be able to mix the two, but I am going to try my very best.

For my final piece, I definitely know that I would like to make a video, although I have not decided whether this will be a stop motion video, or just a normal one.

In my run up to my final piece, I will research into both subjects and take some photos to do with each of them. I will look at some artists that have produced videos/films that are both well-known and amateur. By looking at both I will be compare my work to them to see which kind of level I am at in video making.

*Visual Kei – A movement among Japanese musicians that is characterized by the use of make-up elaborate hair styles and flamboyant costumes. The majority of these musicians are from J-Rock (Japanese Rock) or metal bands and the sub-culture is equally as important as the sound of the music.
